Website Hosting is where a host (ie. Stoke Productions) rents you space on a server that is connected to
the Internet by a high speed data connection. Using a 'locker' analogy - hosting is like renting a locker
to store your website. The domain name is like the locker number - it shows the 'browser' where to find
the information it is trying to request. Over time - if the user's data requirements become too large
then they would have to upgrade that locker to something bigger to house all the information.
The datacentre where Stoke Productions' sites are hosted are connected to the Internet by six GIG-E
(1,024 Mbit each), one OC-3 (128 Mbit) and one DS-3 (64 Mbit). This is the equialent of more than 3,000
T1 lines or 24,000 256K DSL lines!
